Glyph

Universally Interchangeable Tiles

Glyph is a ceramic tile set, based on the n-tile system, designed to allow for constant stability in patterning with infinite flexibility for organization. There are six topological configurations within the rule set that allow for constant connectivity between any two adjacent tiles regardless of their rotation. This allows different compositions of the tile sets, combinations of 1-6 of the tiles, to yield radically different characters to the resultant patterns. Through the act of rotation even in a single tile a high degree of variation can be produced which subdues the single tile in the larger field. By simply running all possible combinations of the tiles, 63 variants can be made with infinite options for patterning over a larger field. Glyph, the simple two dimensional application of this system developed for ceramics as a low cost way to create a highly varied tiling with minimal pre-planning.
